Chinese Company Partners with Top Indonesian Fisheries Firm, Secures Major Tuna Supply Deal
2025-07-24
Jakarta, July 24, 2025 — A Chinese company today signed a long-term skipjack and yellowfin tuna supply agreement with Indonesia’s leading fisheries enterprise PT. XYZ in Jakarta, becoming the Indonesian firm’s largest overseas buyer. Under the contract, the Chinese company will procure over 100,000 tons of tuna annually, with a total value of $1.5 billion, primarily targeting European markets.
The agreement includes MSC-certified sustainable products, aligning with the European Union’s stringent fisheries management requirements. Indonesian officials highlighted that the partnership would bolster the country’s position as a key tuna supplier to Europe while supporting Chinese companies’ supply chain diversification in Europe. Rising European demand for certified seafood, driven by quota restrictions and geopolitical factors, has intensified reliance on Sino-Indonesian collaborative supply chains.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. Both parties plan to jointly invest in port expansions and cold chain infrastructure in Indonesia over the next three years to meet Europe’s demand for high-quality, stable supplies. Analysts noted that this collaboration positions China as a pivotal player in global tuna trade networks, particularly amid Europe’s growing appetite for MSC-certified products.
